Factions are a core part of Flagbearer. Each faction has a core gimmick, which defines their gameplay. A deck can only contain cards from a single faction. This gives each faction distinct strengths and weaknesses that you will need to learn and exploit.

The Omniborg faction centers around the production and utilization of Plex counters. Plex is a resource that is stored on your cards and can be spent for a variety of effects ranging from increasing a single monster's combat stats to spawning legions of monsters.

The Naturae faction focus on moving their cards into a special zone called the “mulchyard”. The Naturae have access to the abilities “mill” (which places cards from your deck into your discard pile) and “mulch” (which places cards from your graveyard into your mulchyard). By utilizing these abilities, they gain access to an array of devastating effects.

The Technomancers have numerous mechanics they can benefit from. Their primary mechanic is the ability to store pip dice on cards. You can use stored dice to create energy, move them onto other cards with storage, eject them to be used again as pip dice, or as a cost to utilize powerful effects. Energy is the Technomancer’s exclusive resource. Energy can be used to charge monsters, empowering them temporarily.

The Plague Rat faction aims to control the game through the utilization of plague counters. Plague Rats may place plague counters on opponents’ monsters by using monsters that “infect” the targets of their attacks. Alternatively, they may use monsters which produce plague counters for themselves passively. Plague counters don’t do anything on their own but gain unique effects when influenced by certain cards. These effects manipulate the strength, toughness, and spirit of plague hosts on a global scale or those of a specific target.

Calamity has struck Aeon! A once vibrant land lies on the brink of complete desolation. The collapse, an event whose very existence is shrouded in doubt, has shaken the fabric of Aeon to its core. In its wake, Flagbearers (carriers of immensely powerful artifacts that unite the wills of all who stand behind them) have formed factions that are the last bastion of protection in Aeon’s increasingly dismal landscape. You will become one of these flagbearers and lead your faction in their struggle to control Aeon’s few remaining habitable territories.

The Omniborg were the result of humans experimenting on the physiological limits of local insects. During these tests the insects were exposed to plex (an extremely rare liquid metal). As a result of this exposure, the insects gained enhanced intelligence and strength, but they were not yet the Omniborg we know today.

Eventually, the insects’ gradual metamorphosis allowed them to fully grasp their circumstances and unite against their captors. The insects fled deep underground where they completed their evolution through further research of plex. It is unclear who the first to become a member of the Omniborg was, but many of these original insects took on new names inspired by those granted to them in captivity.

Not much is known about the Naturae. They are not native to Aeon, but many in their ranks share resemblances with creatures and people of legend. Their motivations are unknown, but they have an odd fascination with constructing alien structures with mysterious purpose.

The Technomancers consist of the horrifying entwined (augmented humans with the ability to manipulate energy to their whim) and the automatons (soulless husks imbued with powerful emotions), which the entwined use to achieve their twisted ends. The Technomancers have no issues with the current state of Aeon. In fact, they see it as brimming with potential for their varied experiments. The Technomancers are thriving in this environment through the utilization of their numerous technological advancements. Their long-term alienation to the concept of a stable environment. And their dedication to not let basic humane practices get in the way of a good experiment.

The Plague Rats are one of Aeon’s greatest enigmas. In the face of a highly volatile environment that has demanded it’s inhabitants to adapt or face extreme opposition, the plague rats have acted with complete apathy. Their way of life—taking what they want and slowly spreading the plague where they can—has proved sufficient in these dire times. In fact, their only relation to the surrounding chaos is as an instigator, using the plague to spread terror to those caught up in the surrounding maelstrom.
